The Minister for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, held a meeting with the Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia, to review advances in agroecology and the strengthening of national production.
According to a MINCYT press release, Minister Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez explained that they evaluated the progress of the Scientific-Peasant Alliance and the Agroecological Maize Planting Plan “to continue promoting family farming in our communal circuits.”
He recalled that, on instructions from the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, agroecological production of corn is encouraged, through the packaging of seeds “with biological products, instead of treatment with chemical products, for the cultivation of 40,000 hectares during the winter 2025 planting cycle.”
The minister said that, with these actions, small and medium-sized producers will be favored, who, with support, will be able to develop “conventional agriculture through an alternative, sustainable and harmonious model with the environment, soil health, which provides national sovereignty”.
