The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, reinaugurated the Cruz Quinal House-Museum in Cumanacoa, Sucre state, to honor and promote the work of this Venezuelan musician, composer and craftsman, known as the King of the Mandolin.
During the reopening, Villegas emphasized that Quinal's work represents Venezuela. “We are very proud of Cruz Quinal and their contributions to our cultural diversity. We are also proud of his family and his countrymen who have given themselves to the task of keeping his legacy alive, to which we are committed so that it persists until the end of time,” he said.
At the same time, he highlighted the importance of the country's cultural diversity in confronting the negative narratives that some sectors have tried to build around Venezuela.
“This persecution finds its main obstacle in our cultural diversity, in the strength of our music, our songs, our poetry, our dances, our gastronomic traditions, our history and that wonderful mix of being Venezuelan and being Venezuelan. Therefore, this is also an act of defending our sovereignty and the dignity of Venezuela,” he said.
The renovation of this center for socio-cultural, educational and tourist activation was possible thanks to the support of the National Museums Foundation (FNM) and the Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC), entities that provided expert advice on museography and infrastructure remodeling.
Inside, there are musical instruments made by Quinal: the mandolin, the morocchio mandolin, the scarpandola, the violin, the guitar, the tres and the maracas. In addition, there is a photographic exhibition by Rafael Salvatore that portrays important moments in the artist's life.
