Fourteen of the tensioners, better known as guayas, of the bridge over Lake Maracaibo, General Rafael Urdaneta in the state of Zulia, will be replaced as part of the major maintenance plan for this main communication artery in western Venezuela.
The information was provided by the Minister of Popular Power for Transportation, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, and the governor of the entity, Luis Caldera, during an inspection of the road structure.
The replacement of the tensioners, which are the steel cables that support the platforms of the concrete structure, will be done in piles 21, 23, 24 and 25. Another 24 of these tensioners will receive preventive maintenance. The bridge has 384 tensors or guayas in total.
Minister Velásquez Araguayán said that these works, which are carried out in three stages, guarantee that the structure remains robust and strengthened, for the safety of those who use it and the extension of its useful life. He explained that in the first phase, the 24 piles of the bridge and the bearings were extensively maintained. The second stage consisted of the complete asphalting, with a folder running from end to end of the structure, which has 8,678 linear meters. In addition, the heads of the 134 batteries were rehabilitated and mobile supports were replaced with type C batteries, regional press reported.
