The Argelia Laya Hall, located in the headquarters of INAMUJER, was the scene of the 1st National Meeting of Women Community Defenders, a
event that brought together community leaders from all over the country, with the firm purpose of strengthening the fight against gender-based violence in Venezuela.
The main objective of the day, which took place during the afternoon, was to consolidate the movement of women community defenders at the national level, promoting effective strategies for the eradication of violence against women in every state of the country.
The Minister of Popular Power for Women and Gender Equality, Jhoanna Carrillo Malavé, highlighted the importance of the meeting, stressing that “if
if we achieved zero impunity and eradicated violence, we will have triumphed and fulfilled the legacy of Commander Chávez.”
The highest authority of the institution urged women defenders to continue training and to have in-depth knowledge of the laws that protect women's rights, as well as to strengthen their leading role in participatory democracy.
The event included a presentation by Dr. Otilia Cauffman, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Justice, who made gender violence visible as a threat to peace.
She also stressed that, despite regulatory advances, gender-based violence persists as a serious violation of human rights and a threat to peace, violating women's free development.
The meeting served as a platform for the exchange of experiences and training in tools for prevention, approach and support in the area of gender-based violence.
The First National Meeting of Women Community Defenders represents a crucial step in building a more just and inclusive society, which is why it calls for collective action to continue promoting prevention, approach and support activities, based on up-to-date training and the application of tools according to the needs of each territory.
