The president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce, announced an economic summit to evaluate the exchange rate of the dollar against the peso (official currency), due to the scarcity of foreign exchange in the country.
Arce, in a speech for the 199th anniversary of Bolivia's Independence, said that “after listening to the productive business sectors and the population as a whole, we have taken the decision to convene a national dialogue for the economy with the business sector, to discuss the dollar exchange rate, exports and imports.”
The president also reported that he will call a referendum to decide if the hydrocarbon subsidy is maintained and the presidential re-election continues.
“Difficult times require firm decisions. For this reason, and faithful to the commitment to the Fatherland, to the people and through democratic means, I call for a referendum on the date on which the Judicial Elections are held,” he stressed.
