The president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacora, announced Tuesday night his decision not to run in the general elections scheduled for August 2025. The decline comes in the midst of a context of polarization with Evo Morales, who was expelled from the official political instrument, the Movement for Socialism Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples (MAS-IPSP)

“I will not be a factor in dividing the popular vote, much less facilitate the realization of a fascistoid right-wing project that seeks to destroy the plurinational State, with which it seeks to destroy the productive social economic model,” said the president.

In an extensive speech, President Luis Arce referred to the “extreme polarization in the electoral scenario” and the need to face the neoliberal model “I confirm that unity is the only way to save the Plurinational State”

Arce's decision comes hours after the MAS secretary, Fidel Surco, assured that his party will have its binomial defined this Wednesday for the general elections of August 17.

“Until tomorrow (Wednesday), in the afternoon, we will know the official binomial between president and vice president,” Surco said on BoliviaTV.
