This Friday, the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) of Bolivia ratified the ruling of the 10-year prison sentence against former de facto president Jeanine Áñez.
The Court rejected the cassation appeal filed by Áñez's lawyers in the case known as Coup d'Etat II where the initial sentence was handed down on June 10, 2022, at which time the judiciary convicted Áñez for crimes of breach of duties and decisions contrary to the Constitution of Bolivia.
That is why the final verdict of the Supreme Court of Justice this Friday came after an exhaustive analysis carried out by a legal team led by judges Olvis Égüez and Edwin Aguayo of the Criminal Chamber, according to the TELESUR web portal.
Áñez has at least seven other processes open in Bolivian justice, including “Coup d'Etat I” for the crimes of sedition, terrorism and conspiracy. The Prosecutor's Office concluded the investigation and expects that the trial will take place in 2024.
Currently, the former de facto president is being held in the women's prison in Miraflores, in La Paz.
