Book “The Thunder Box” by Benito Irady was christened at FILVEN

The writer honored at the twentieth Venezuelan International Book Fair (FILVEN), Benito Irady, presented and named his book “The Thunder Box”, which tells the life story of three peasant and Afro-descendant women, with their anxieties and dreams.

The activity was accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas; the Deputy Minister of Development for the Cultural Economy and president of the National Book Center (CENAL), , and one of the protagonists of the literary work, Cova, together with one of her daughters and a granddaughter.

The writer from El Tigre, Anzoátegui state, pointed out that the history of these women coincides because they are Afro-descendants from the region of the Gulf of Cariaco -located in the east of the country- and are practitioners of the culture of this region. Their names are and Alberta Cova.

“Here we are with Alberta Cova, the only survivor of three women who told me their life stories. I decided to transform them into what can be or read as a testimonial novel,” he explained.

In this regard, , declared living cultural heritage of the state of Sucre and honorary teacher of the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), expressed her joy and gratitude for participating in the main literary fair in Venezuela.

“Here we are at the presentation and christening of a book that Benito Irady wrote to me. There he narrates all my wisdom, my story, my life. The same goes for Guillermina Ramírez, a deceased female sculptor, and Berta Vargas, the inventor of dolls in Cerezares, Sucre state,” she said and invited those present to read in nature.
