Boosting marine aquaculture from Nueva Esparta strengthens the Venezuelan economy

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo, highlighted the transformative potential of seaweed as a fundamental pillar for Venezuela's new productive economy. During a visit to the area of El Guamache, in the state of Nueva Esparta, the holder of the portfolio emphasized that the use of this aquaculture resource, developed through the talent and experience of local fishermen, constitutes a unique production experience in the world that takes advantage of the natural riches of the sea.

The extracted resource has six different varieties whose properties allow its use in multiple strategic sectors. As explained by the minister, the gummy material derived from these algae is an essential component for the cosmetics industry, being the basis for the production of lipsticks and other beauty products, in addition to playing a fundamental role in the food industry.

In addition, its processing is driving the development of biofertilizers and other inputs necessary to consolidate an organic chemistry aimed at creating high-value products.

The economic diversification strategy is already beginning to reflect positive results in international markets. In statements offered to a radio station, Minister Loyo reported that exports totaling 270 tons of seaweed have been made from the island entity, certifying the quality and competitiveness of the Venezuelan product. This milestone is part of a state policy that seeks to position the aquaculture sector as a constant source of foreign exchange and technological development for the nation.

With a clear vision of the country's geographical advantages, the minister emphasized that Venezuela's economic future is intrinsically linked to the sea. The consolidation of, as a strategic point for marine aquaculture, seeks not only to enhance traditional fishing activity, but to transform it into a modern industrial engine.

Under this approach, the national executive continues to support projects that allow the emergence of new products and strengthen productive sovereignty through the sustainable use of marine ecosystems.
