The first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of
Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, said this Wednesday that the date of
the presidential elections scheduled for July 28 was announced in
line with agreements between all the political sectors that live in the country.
“The (Barbados) agreement said that the elections
were going to take place in the second half of the year. Well, as far as I know, July belongs to the
second semester. We are still complying with the clear rules of the game, there is
a schedule. It's the same schedule adjusted to the date and day of the other electoral
events,” Cabello said at a press conference with the red awning.
He pointed out that there are sectors of the extremist opposition that,
after asking for elections for six years, “are now horrified
because elections were called”, claiming an alleged “advantage for the regime
(...) we don't understand what they have, but we're used to it,” he added.
