The tenth edition of the CAF Marathon reached a record participation of 10,000 runners this Sunday, a figure that consolidates the highest number in the history of this competition.

The increase in athletes on the 21 and 42 kilometer routes coincided with the update of the best historical times in the men's and women's categories, during a day that toured the municipalities of Libertador, Chacao, Baruta and Sucre

Panamanian Jorge Enrique Castelblanco claimed victory in the marathon category with a record of 2:15:18. This time reduces by almost one minute the previous mark of 2:16:15 set by Brazilian Justino Pedro Da Silva in the 2023 edition. Castelblanco led the elite group after beating Venezuelans José Antonio Reyes (2:20:41) and Pedro José Puentes (2:22:35), who ranked second and third respectively.

In the women's category, Ecuadorian Silvia Patricia Ortiz also set a new record for the competition by stopping the stopwatch at 2:33:55. The runner beat Peru's Deysi Castro and Argentina's Natacha Castaño, who completed the international long-distance podium.

The half marathon modality (21 km) confirmed the performance of the Venezuelan athletes. José Daniel González won the men's first place with a time of 1:06:34, while Edymar Brea did the same in the women's division with a record of 1:15:57.

For his part, in the reduced mobility category, Juan Valladares added a new triumph to his career by completing the course in 1:45:29.

The event operated under World Athletics standards and served as a qualifier for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The organization highlighted the sustained increase in female participation in the competition, which reached unprecedented participation rates for road athletics in the region.
