The United States Government announced new sanctions against two judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC), for allegedly investigating, arresting or prosecuting Israeli citizens without Israel's consent and for voting in favor of the decision against the appeal of the Jewish State on December 15.

This supremacist decision is interpreted as a gesture of political support for Israel in the midst of the military offensive against Gaza, which has left thousands of civilian victims.

Donald Trump's measure evidences this decision reinforces Washington's biased stance in the face of the conflict and reflects a pattern of protection for the actions of the Israeli State.

The State Department reported that the sanctions fall on judges Gocha Lordkipanidze, from Georgia, and Erdenebalsuren Damdin, from Mongolia, whom it accuses of participating in investigations, arrest warrants or proceedings against Israeli citizens without the consent of the Jewish nation. The decision comes after the December 15 vote, when the ICC Appeals Chamber rejected the Israeli appeal and confirmed the court's competence to investigate alleged crimes committed before and after October 7, 2023.

Trump's favouritism is evident because they are the ones who supply weapons to Israel and with these actions they seek to delegitimize international accountability mechanisms at a time when the Court is maintaining arrest warrants against senior Israeli officials.

The decision comes as investigations into alleged human rights abuses in Palestine continue, initiated in 2021 following a request from the Palestinian Authority. The ICC confirmed this week that it maintains its jurisdiction over the events that occurred in Gaza, including the military offensive following the October 7 attack.

U.S. sanctions send an adverse message to international efforts to document violations and protect Palestinian civilians

While military operations in Gaza continue and complaints are accumulating about the disproportionate impact on the civilian population.
