Under the motto “Reading humanizes”, the 21st Venezuelan Book Fair (FILVEN) Carabobo opened its doors at the Valencia Art Museum Cultural Complex (MUVA), with a large attendance and diverse cultural expressions, which reaffirmed this as a space for critical thinking and national identity.
The opening ceremony was led by the Deputy Minister of Development for the Cultural Economy and president of the National Book Center (CENAL), Raúl Cazal, who stressed that in FILVEN there are elements that constitute the cultural identity and spirituality of the Venezuelan people. “If there is one thing that we have, besides territorial sovereignty, it is intellectual sovereignty, the sovereignty of the imagination. We are very anxious to continue to promote life and our culture. That is an essential part of this FILVEN,” he said.
In this regard, he invited those present to continue with the debate, literary creation and the publication of books. “Humanity has advanced to this point thanks to the knowledge that has been kept and reproduced for centuries in books. Without them we wouldn't have gotten here. Without them, a revolution like the one we have today wouldn't have happened either. Our memories and our struggles are concentrated in the books,” he said.
Cazal also emphasized the historic impulse to read promoted by Commander Hugo Chávez, President Nicolás Maduro and the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, whom he described as “extraordinary readers”. In addition, he praised the spirit of resistance and resilience of the Venezuelan people at the current juncture.
For his part, the director of the Cabinet of Culture of Carabobo, Luis Salvador Feo La Cruz, highlighted the varied agenda of the event, which includes more than 100 literary, theatrical, children and musical activities, thanks to the coordination of various regional institutions.
