This Sunday, July 12, a vessel from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) arrived in Venezuelan waters with 88 containers of humanitarian aid, intended to benefit people affected after the earthquake of last June.

The shipment, in a report by Venezolana de Televisión, was received by the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, who expressed his gratitude for the solidarity gesture. “I especially want to thank the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, but also the CARICOM countries that have joined this initiative,” he said.

He also announced that the ship contains medicines and food, as well as construction materials and machinery for the removal of debris, in order to begin the reconstruction phase of the country.

For his part, the Guyana ambassador to Venezuela, Richard Van West-Charles, stressed that “this is part of a coordinated aid by CARICOM and this is not the last; we are coordinating to send more and help the situation here.”
