The capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, is filled with celebrations this September 2 for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution of 1945 and the subsequent declaration of independence known as the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
This historic event takes place in Hanoi's Ba Đình Square and is expected to be attended by 40,000 participants as part of the parade and procession, organized in 87 divisions that include ceremonial units, civilian groups, military branches, militias and police, and contingencies of motorized and specialized vehicles.
On September 2, 1945, Ho Chi Minh declared independence and Vietnam became the first Asian nation to become independent after World War II. Thereafter, French and Japanese colonial rule came to an end.
The parade involves the military participation of the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation, Laos and Cambodia. The Kremlin sent an honor guard from the Preobrazhensky Regiment, while Laos and Cambodia each provided 120 soldiers.
According to Vietnamese media, the ceremony, scheduled as announced, began with traditional rituals that included the lighting of torches and the raising of flags, accompanied by military parades that highlight the order and discipline of Vietnam's armed forces.
