The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, recalled this Saturday the events of April 11 , 2002, highlighting the courage of the Venezuelan people in the face of the attempted coup against Commander Hugo Chávez, and he said that “April is a month of popular victory”.

Through social networks, the foreign minister stated that despite the maneuvers of sectors of the oligarchy and military deserters, the citizen's will prevailed to defend national sovereignty.

“In just 48 hours, we witnessed the dismantling of public powers and democracy; however, the people were not intimidated and filled the streets adjacent to the presidential palace, demanding the return of their president,” he said.

He pointed out that that day the Puente Llaguno Massacre took place, an event orchestrated by the right that left a “deep wound in our society”.

Gil stressed that it was precisely this popular mobilization that allowed the return of the legitimate president and the continuity of the transformation process in the country. “It was that popular force, that red tide and that unwavering conviction that restored democracy and the Bolivarian project in Venezuela,” he concluded.
