The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yvan Gil, assured that “Venezuela has demonstrated to the international community its firm historic commitment to resolving directly with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana the dispute over the Essequibo, within the framework of the Geneva Agreement of 1966.”

From his Telegram channel, he wrote that “this agreement remains the only legal and current instrument that provides a way to resolve the dispute through direct negotiations.”

In that regard, he noted that “we regret that Guyana seeks to distort the role of the International Court of Justice in trying to prosecute the dispute instead of entering into a sovereign and diplomatic dialogue with Venezuela, as stipulated in the Geneva Agreement.”
