Last Monday, the Chilean justice system ordered preventive detention for alleged corruption crimes against Daniel Jadue, former presidential candidate and one of the main figures of the Communist Party.

Jadue, mayor of the municipality of Recoleta, in the north of Santiago, sent a letter that was published in his X account. He was accused of bribery, unfair administration, tax fraud and fraud in the administration of the so-called “Popular Pharmacies, which he promoted as a competition from commercial chains.

We share this message from Mayor Jadue from his disproportionate preventive detention in Capitán Yáber. Starting today, family members and their party, we will communicate through their social networks, news and information related to their judicial situation, as well as other topics of interest,” says the message shared on the social network.

Paulina Moya, judge in the case, ordered preventive detention, considering that Jadue's freedom “is dangerous to the security of society”, in line with what was requested by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The mayor said on the social network X: “They judge me for our transformative management. There is not a single weight in my pocket, but they give me the utmost precaution. We will appeal to this disproportionate measure.”
