The Governments of the People's Republic
of China and the Russian Federation on Tuesday urged right-wing extremist factors to
recognize the results of the presidential elections held on July
28 in Venezuela, in which the current head of state, Nicolás Maduro, won.
They also condemned the attempts to destabilize the
country by the radical opposition and the actions of interference by some
governments in the region and the world, while reaffirming their support for the Venezuelan people and the Bolivarian Government.
The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, said that the Venezuelan
opposition must accept its defeat in the elections and congratulate the winner.
“We see that the opposition doesn't want to accept their defeat,
we think it should. You should congratulate the winner of these elections,” said
the Russian official, adding that “it is very important that these
attempts to shake up the situation inside Venezuela are not fueled by
third countries, third parties, and that Venezuela is free from external interference.”
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the
Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, stressed that “all parties must respect the choice
made by the Venezuelan people”, highlighting China's conviction “that the Government
and the people of Venezuela are capable of solving internal problems
themselves.”
