The People's Republic of China urged Mexico to avoid turning economic and trade issues into political issues, in response to the Mexican proposal to review Chinese investments based on economic security criteria.
In a statement quoted by Sputnik, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed its rejection of practices such as unilateralism and protectionism, as well as the political use of trade relations between countries.
“China is systematically opposed to all forms of unilateralism and protectionism, as well as to the politicization, armamentization and instrumentalization of trade and economic affairs,” the document details.
It was also noted that the Asian giant repeatedly asked Mexico to correct measures considered inadequate, such as the imposition of tariffs unilaterally, and expressed concern about the possible review of investments.
In this regard, the ministry also recalled that in September 2025 it began an investigation into the restrictions imposed by Mexico on investments from China.
