The Chinese Government, this Tuesday, November 04, assured that “China's normal cooperation with Venezuela constitutes cooperation between sovereign states not directed against any third party.”
The approach is in response to the American media outlet The Washington Post claiming that the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, would have asked Russia, China and Iran for help to defend the country against aggression and pressure from the United States, the Telesur website reported.
The spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, stated at a press conference that Beijing supports the strengthening of international cooperation to combat transnational crime and that it opposes the use or threat of such force in international relations.
The official said that her country “opposes any attempt to undermine peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as to unilateral coercive actions against ships from other countries that exceed reasonable and necessary limits.”
“We expect the United States to carry out customary judicial and police cooperation through bilateral and multilateral legal frameworks,” he said.
Several recently published reports suggest that the United States is increasing its military deployment in the Caribbean area or that it is even planning attacks against supposed targets in Venezuela.
This situation increases fear of a Washington offensive against the Venezuelan Government despite the fact that Donald Trump himself denied that possibility.
Faced with constant pressure from the United States, President Maduro has repeatedly denounced that Washington wants to expel him from power and has asked the U.S. side to renounce military plans with respect to his country.
In this context, the United Nations (UN), last week accused the U.S. government of “violating international law” with its attacks on vessels with ties, according to Washington, to drug trafficking, stating that the people on board were victims of “extrajudicial executions”.
