The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China announced this Friday that it is willing to actively contribute to the process of achieving stable coexistence between Thailand and Cambodia, in the midst of the conflict over territorial boundaries, as reported by its foreign minister, Wang Yi.
During a meeting with his Thai counterpart, Maris Sangiampongsa, Wang said that China will maintain a “neutral and equitable” position regarding the border dispute and expressed his desire that both sides seek solutions through bilateral dialogue.
The meeting took place this Thursday during the Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, held in Malaysia.
The origin of the tension dates back to May 28, when an armed incident occurred in a neighboring area that resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier. Both governments are still in talks to reach an agreement, although there are no clear definitions so far.
