The National Cinemateca Foundation (FCN) opened with the 1st Indian Film Festival, with the screening of the film Mary Kom, in the Cinemateca room, in Bellas Artes, Caracas.
The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, who was present at the inauguration, assured that the festival is a cultural bridge between Venezuela and India.
“This first festival is a geopolitical reality that brings us closer to what seems distant and forces us to appreciate the different cultures of the world,” said the press release of the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture.
He also announced that the film Mary Kom will soon begin a tour of all cities, parishes and communes. “This is in alliance with the movie club movement, so that all Venezuelans can enjoy the Indian film industry,” he added.
For his part, the ambassador of the Republic of India in Venezuela, Ashok Babu, stressed that his country's film industry plays a fundamental role in shaping “and reflecting its culture”.
In addition, he explained that they often touch on social issues, family values and historical events, creating a platform with iconic pieces that have inspired generations, and left a lasting aspect in society.
The National Cinemateca Foundation invites fans of the big screen to enjoy these screenings for free.
