The vice-president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Carlos Quintero, stressed that the electoral process of councilors and councilors of the ancestral ethnic groups of Venezuela is a democratic exercise rooted in the national Constitution that recognizes indigenous peoples in their full political participation.
In telephone contact with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Quintero said that the polling stations have already closed and stressed that the process “took place in a civic, calm and orderly manner in accordance with the provisions of the regulations governing this electoral process.”
“At this time of night, all the polling stations have closed in the states of Anzoátegui, Apure, Bolívar, Monagas, Sucre, Zulia, Amazonas and Delta Amacuro, which are the eight states where general meetings were being held in the 69 municipalities,” he explained.
He stressed that this process “represents a democratic exercise deeply rooted in our Constitution, especially in articles 125, 126 and 175, which recognize the right of indigenous peoples to elect their representatives to municipal councils, guaranteeing their full political participation.”
