The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, said that he will not participate in the next Summit of the Americas to be held in the Dominican Republic, after the exclusion of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua from the regional meeting. “The dialogue doesn't start with exclusions,” he said.

Through a message posted on social networks, the president said that he proposed to Washington a meeting between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the United States to promote the economic integration of the continent, but that his initiative was ignored.

“There was no response and what we have is an aggression in the Caribbean that had been constituted as a zone of peace,” he emphasized.

In that regard, he assured that Latin America's path is to have the most open and profound relationships with the world. In this regard, he specified that the CELAC/Europe meeting will propose a strong alliance based on knowledge, clean energy, artificial intelligence with global sovereignty over its regulation, while announcing that an agreement was reached at the CELAC/China meeting on the same terms.

He also explained that meetings have been proposed between CELAC/African Union, CELAC/Middle East, and CELAC/India. “Latin America does not need to take sides in commercial competition with nations that are always fluctuating (...) we are moving forward in Amazonian integration and linking up with the whole world without exceptions and without subordinations,” he said.
