After learning about the decision of the Colombian Senate rejecting the popular consultation for labor reform, President Gustavo Petro urged Colombians to “stay calm, meet in public places, organize and make decisions.”
President Petro called on peasant organizations, labor unions, youth groups and all municipal councils to discuss whether or not the initiatives proposed by the popular movement itself should be approved.
“What was being discussed is whether people have the right to an eight-hour day, if the young worker has the right to a wage, if the peasant has the right to a pension,” the Colombian president explained.
