The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, spoke about a possible bombing from Ecuador, and asked his counterpart from the United States (USA), Donald Trump, to mediate to prevent a violent escalation that would worsen relations between the two nations.

“Bombs have appeared, a bomb, dropped from an airplane, the modes are going to be thoroughly investigated, very much on the border with Ecuador, confirming my suspicion a little, but we have to investigate it well, that they are bombing us from Ecuador and they are not armed groups,” said the Colombian president during the Council of Ministers on Monday.

Gustavo Petro, asked Trump to act and “call the president of Ecuador, because we don't want to go to war,” quoted Colombian media.

Both nations have been engaged in a trade conflict since February, when President Daniel Noboa imposed tariffs on his neighbor in demand of “the few efforts” to combat drug trafficking on the border, a measure that was answered by Petro.

Ecuador is part of the so-called “Shield of the Americas”, a two-week offensive began this weekend to combat criminal organizations with US support.
