This Wednesday, the United Workers' Central (CUT) together with other unions and social movements in Colombia began a 48-hour national strike in support of the popular consultation on labor reform promoted by the Government of President Gustavo Petro.
The president of the CUT, Fabio Arias, stated for Telesur in Bogotá, Hernán Tobar, said that attempts to approve the popular consultation within Congress to have a labor reform for their benefit will not succeed, because the opposition is the majority in that instance.
“Impossible, it's not going to prosper, it serves to leave a political record, which is important,” Arias said of a bill on the subject introduced in the Senate by a legislator from the ruling Historical Pact.
The Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic reported that workers “have the right to participate in the mobilization of May 28 and 29 without fear of reprisals. There can be no wage discounts or penalties.”
