The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, extended public recognition to Venezuela for the recent and forceful operations aimed at the destruction of drug trafficking logistics camps.

The congratulations were expressed this Tuesday, November 4, through his account on the social network X, in which he points out that the above-mentioned actions are part of a proposal for binational cooperation that the Colombian president had previously formulated to the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

Petro emphasized the need to coordinate joint military efforts in the border area, arguing that unified action is the most effective way to dismantle the mafias, rather than encouraging their dispersion.

“It's very good that the Venezuelan security forces are destroying drug trafficking camps. It was my proposal to Maduro and that is why forces must be coordinated to destroy the mafias instead of dispersing them,” he said in his message.

Petro took advantage of the communication to reiterate his position on U.S. military deployments in the Caribbean Sea.

In a clear warning, he points out that a possible military action or invasion of Venezuela by Washington would not only be counterproductive, but would have the effect of “expanding drug trafficking and theft of oil and gasoline on a large scale” in the region.

The Colombian president insisted that the strengthening of the State must take place through democratic means. It also identifies the “New Drug Trafficking Board” as the “big buyer of cocaine” in the Catatumbo border area.

He considered this organization a “federated multinational structure” that has supposedly managed to exert political influence on Florida legislators to promote anti-drug policies that, paradoxically, would benefit what he considers to be the largest cartel in the world.
