On September 12, 2012, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Fías, expressed his love and respect for Venezuelan women, stressing that a true socialist revolutionary must be a feminist.
“I express my deepest respect to all Venezuelan women (...) Never before has any government in Venezuela treated the revolutionary process with such love, dignity and respect for Venezuelan women, as this revolutionary government and, beyond the government, the revolutionary process,” said Teresa Carreño from the Teatro Teresa Carreño.
It also emphasized the historical role that Venezuelan women have always played; as well as the burden of love and pain that they have to carry in their lives.
“As a thinking and acting entity, a loving entity, even a suffering entity (...) The pain is greater not only in the female, but in the females of the popular classes, there it is infinitely greater. If Christ carried a cross, how many crosses do the poor women of this land carry, how much pain, but at the same time how much love to bring at the time when they appear on the horizon, how much love to provide at the time when processes such as the Bolivarian Revolution spring up from the bottom of the earth, how much to contribute and now I know on this difficult path that we have been traveling, treading and opening up, how much contribution Venezuelan women have made for decades,” she stressed.
