Peruvian congressmen presented a vacancy motion before Congress this Friday, the 15th, against the ruler Dina Boluarte, after accusing her of abandoning office, the Telesur website reported.
He points out that the congressmen stated that, although Boluarte had authorization from Congress to leave and travel, there was no adjustment to the “constitutional framework”, because he did not leave a vice-president to be in charge of the presidential office.
In this regard, they declared “the vacancy of the Presidency of the Republic, in the person of Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, in application of Article 113, paragraph 4, of the Political Constitution of Peru and, consequently, the application of Article 115 of the Constitution that regulates presidential succession”.
According to the motion, in article 113, it is stated that “the Presidency of the Republic is vacant because it leaves the national territory without permission from Congress or will not return within the fixed deadline”.
Meanwhile, Article 115 of the Constitution maintains that due to the “temporary or permanent impediment of the president, the first vice-president assumes office”, however, after this action by Dina Boluarte, for the third time he has been awarded a vacancy motion in just over a year in office.
For this measure to be approved, 52 votes must validate it in the plenary of Congress.
On the other hand, social and political organizations in the country rejected this Friday the government administration of Dina Boluarte and especially the repression that occurred in social mobilizations after the death of 10 people and 70 injured in the protests that took place a year ago in Ayacucho.
“Our dead are not forgotten. We raise our voices against criminals and mobsters who seek to steal our democracy and its institutions. In memory of Ayacucho and Apurimac,” said a spokeswoman for the New Peru Movement, regarding the date and the politics of the current president.
In addition, on December 7, Peruvians mobilized demanding the closure of the Congress and the resignation of Boluarte, one year after his coming to power, and they reported the death of the 49 victims of state repression due to the protests that began in December 2022.
