Yorgelis Salazar won the title of Grand Winner of the World Karate League in kumite -50 kilograms during the last stop of the circuit held in Rabat, Morocco, and consolidated his dominance in the season after closing the fourth phase of the international calendar, the Ministry of Sport reported.
The Venezuelan woman achieved this recognition for the third time in her career, after obtaining it in 2022 and 2023, and reaffirmed her position in the world karate elite, as she told the World Karate Federation (WKF), highlighting the effort made after her recovery from previous cruciate ligament surgery.
The athlete arrived in Rabat with a 90-point disadvantage compared to the leader of the ranking, the Algerian Cylia Ouikene, however she advanced in Pool 8 by beating the German Alexandra Wolf 4-3 and then secured her qualification to the round of 16 by winning 9-0 against Rayane Sekkour.
The elimination of Ouikene in the next round allowed Salazar to mathematically secure the title of Grand Winner while still competing and preparing to face Japan's Mizuki Ishihara in the quarterfinals in search of the medal table.
The karate club dedicated this achievement to its team and to the young people who are pursuing their careers, noting that this is their third Grand Prix and that they aim to achieve more results before closing their sports cycle.
Salazar will seek to close the season with a third consecutive victory on the circuit after winning the Roma stop and repeating the victory in China.
