The Venezuelan athlete Ángel Rodríguez was proclaimed champion in the 88 kg division after achieving 365 kg in the Olympic total, setting a new Pan-American record in the Junior Weightlifting World Championship that will be held from May 2 to 8 in Ismailia, Egypt.
In the form of an envoy, the representative of Kazakhstan, Yerasil Saulebekov, responded with a lifting of 193 kg compared to the 192 kg proposed by the Venezuelan on his first attempt.
Later, Rodríguez instantly led the table by lifting 197 kg with the new Pan-American brand, but the Kazakh immediately countered with a 199 kg lift that awarded him the gold medal, despite failing in a final attempt of 209 kg.
The Venezuelan proposed 200 kg in his last move, which he could not complete and was in second place. The third place went to Kasajo Askerbay when he lifted 194 kg.
With this performance, Rodríguez closed his participation with gold at the start, silver in both halves and became world champion in the Olympic total, according to the Ministry of Popular Power for Sports.
