The Minister of Energy and Mines of Cuba, Vicente de la O Levy, reported that a plan is being carried out to restore the electrical system in the eastern part of the Caribbean nation, following the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa. The work focuses on the revision of the networks, the repair of faults caused by humidity and the progressive restoration of service.
During a session of the National Defense Council, De la O Levy specified that technical teams have been mobilized from Pinar del Rio to Camagüey. He indicated that workers in the sector in the affected areas are also participating in restoration actions.
De la O Levy highlighted that more than two thousand generators are fueled and operate in service centers, hydraulic stations, strategic facilities and communication nodes, with coverage that reaches 84%.
He also announced the resumption of operations of Unit 3 of the Céspedes thermoelectric power plant, located in Cienfuegos, which will help alleviate the burden in the western region.
The minister warned that the full restoration of supply will take several days, but stressed that the immediate objective is to accelerate the restoration of service.
