The first vice-president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, Ana María Mari Machado, categorically rejected the actions of aggression, coercion and provocation of the United States government in the Caribbean.
During her speech at the Parliamentary Meeting of the Greater Caribbean for Peace, Mari Machado denounced that Washington's imperialist stance threatens peace, regional security and international law, promoting a dangerous situation through boat interceptions, extrajudicial executions and attacks that directly affect the Peoples of the Caribbean. “These actions generate the deepest rejection and justify this meeting on behalf of our people,” he said.
The deputy expressed Cuba's full support for the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, led by President Nicolás Maduro, and recognized the civilian-military union as a legitimate expression of the popular will. He also extended his solidarity to the Colombian people and to President Gustavo Petro, who, as he highlighted, was subject to sanctions after denouncing imperialist provocations to the United Nations (UN).
“Peace is not defended only with proclamations, but with concrete actions that reject war and aggression,” Mari Machado stressed, while calling for the strengthening of regional unity and the mobilization of all media to sensitize public opinion about the risks faced by Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Cuban vice president evoked the message addressed to the U.S. government, as a symbol of the common will to avoid war. “Defending peace is defending life, regardless of political affiliation, religion or thought,” he concluded.
