The central laboratory of the Antonio Patricio de Alcalá University Hospital (Huapa), in the city of Cumaná, Sucre state, was reactivated with the purpose of guaranteeing free diagnoses to the population through tests such as complete hematology, blood chemistry and a catalog of 27 specialized tests.

The director of the health center, Dr. Ezequiel Rojas, explained that the reactivation was possible thanks to the efforts of the national and regional government, which managed to optimize the installed capacity of laboratory services with the acquisition of equipment and reagents that will allow patients to be diagnosed.

Rojas also confirmed that they are in the final stage of activating arterial blood gas analysis, which is essential for critically ill patients in emergencies and intensive care.

“The patient has to come here and find all the services available so that our doctors can also help diagnose the disease and thus provide him with better treatment,” said the director of Huapa.

He argued that, in conjunction with the Ministry for Health and the Government of Sucre, they are working on the recovery of different areas of the Cumanés hospital; in addition, he indicated that they are making progress in the rehabilitation of the roof and other tasks that are being carried out in order to improve the conditions of the hospital infrastructure.
