Death toll from explosion in Iranian port rises to 14

The Iranian Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, reported that the death toll has risen to 14, while six have so far been missing and more than 700 injured by the explosion that occurred this Saturday in the coastal city of Bandar Abbás.

He also noted that “fortunately, another 200 victims have been discharged from the hospital and 300 people continue to receive treatment,” a note from Telesur reports.

He explained that his government has taken every precaution “to carry out port and customs operations, and more stable conditions have been achieved in key areas and, fortunately, port and customs systems have not been affected.”

At noon in the coastal city of Bandar Abbás, in the port of that city located in southern Iran, in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz, several containers with chemical products exploded , but these have not yet been identified.

In this regard, government spokesman Fatemeh Mohajerani said that it is currently difficult to establish the exact causes of the explosion.
