The death toll from a stampede during a religious meeting in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, rises to 116 .
According to local media, of the deceased, 88 bodies were transferred to a local trauma center, 27 to Etah Hospital and one to a medical center in the town of Hathras.
Of note is the accident at the religious meeting in the Sikandra Rao area, Hathrasal, and most of the victims were women and children who slipped and fell into a ditch next to the road.
The tragedy occurred after the ceremony had concluded and the attendees began to leave, according to the Xinhua website.
