The number of victims caused by the rains in southeastern Brazil rose to 68, according to the balance sheet released this Friday by Civil Protection of Minas Gerais.

The update confirms 62 victims in Juiz de Fora and six in Ubá, while seven people are still missing, Sputnik reported.

Authorities reported that 238 inhabitants have been rescued and that more than 5,500 people have been displaced in the entire region, while teams continue operations in areas with access compromised by landslides and floods.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to visit the affected area on Saturday and will meet with mayors at the municipal headquarters of Juiz de Fora.

The rains are also causing damage to the coastal strip of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In Angra dos Reis, Paraty and Ubatuba there have been floods and river overflows, with more than a thousand people evicted from their homes, although there have been no fatalities.
