On the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement, Venezuela ratifies that it will never give up its rights to Guiana Essequiba, which has been, is and will be part of the territorial integrity of Venezuela.

This was ratified by the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, who, through a statement, stressed that the only possible path for the resolution of the territorial dispute is to establish a definitive negotiation in good faith, to make effective the practical settlement, satisfactory to the parties proposed in the Geneva Agreement.

Below is the full statement:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrates with joy and patriotic fervor the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement of 1966, the only valid legal instrument to reach a mutually acceptable solution to the territorial dispute over Guiana Essequiba.

This international treaty, duly deposited with the United Nations Organization, buried the discussion about the validity or invalidity of the 1899 Arbitral Award and developed the obligation of Venezuela and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to put an end to the territorial dispute over Guiana Essequiba, through a practical and mutually acceptable settlement.

During these six decades of validity of the Geneva Agreement, Venezuela has demonstrated its absolute commitment to complying with the obligations established therein, seeking in good faith and in a sustained manner a political and negotiated solution to the territorial dispute, in strict accordance with the spirit and text of these international treaties.

For its part, since at least 2015, Guyana has violated and ignored the Geneva Agreement, frustrating good offices processes in bad faith and seeking to obtain land titles that it has never held, through a furious unilateral lawsuit before the International Court of Justice, which lacks jurisdiction to settle this dispute.

In the framework of the commemoration of this 60th anniversary, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela ratifies that, in accordance with the popular mandate emanating from the referendum of December 3, 2023, it will never renounce its historical rights and titles over Guiana Essequiba, which has been, is and will be part of the territorial integrity of Venezuela.

The only possible path for the resolution of the territorial dispute is to establish a definitive negotiation in good faith, to make effective the practical, acceptable and satisfactory settlement for both parties to which they committed themselves in the Geneva Agreement.

The Venezuelan sun rises in the Essequibo!
