Denounces that Ecuador has registered 53 forced disappearances since 2024

The Standing Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (HRC) registered 53 cases of forced disappearance in Ecuador since 2024, following the militarization of security ordered by President Daniel Noboa.

The complaints are concentrated in the provinces of Guayas, Esmeraldas and Los Ríos, and most of the victims are young men from popular sectors, Telesur reported.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures for 26 missing persons and six women seekers through Resolution 97/2025, adopted on December 24, 2025. In the absence of a response from the State, Amnesty International denounced a pattern of abuses in military operations.

The only case with a sentence concerns the four children from Las Malvinas, who disappeared in December 2024 in Guayaquil and were found burned days later. A court sentenced 11 soldiers to 34 years and eight months in prison for enforced disappearance. In March 2026, the Constitutional Court confirmed the enforced disappearance, and the State offered a public apology in June of that year.
