The Deputy Minister for Latin America of the Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Rander Peña, urged the Deputy Minister of Multilateral Affairs of the Colombian Foreign Ministry, Mauricio Jaramillo, to avoid falling into “microphone diplomacy”, after having held a meeting with the families of Colombians arrested in Venezuela for participating in destabilizing actions.
“Vice Chancellor Jaramillo, I assure you that Venezuela is a strong state that protects its citizens and the Republic against any attempt at destabilization. There is no 'humanitarian crisis'. There are people prosecuted by the Venezuelan justice system, mostly linked to paramilitary structures that entered the country for violent purposes, and in the face of this, the State has acted with the firmness required by law and the duty to preserve peace,” Peña highlighted through his Telegram channel, in response to a statement from the New Granada Foreign Ministry.
In this regard, the Venezuelan diplomat stated that “no media pressure” will prevent the Bolivarian nation from “fulfilling its obligation to defend its sovereignty. This is not a 'humanitarian crisis'; it's the rule of law acting,” he reiterated.
Peña urged Jaramillo not to fall into “microphone diplomacy”, as this attitude damages relations between Venezuela and Colombia, “especially at a time when so much is being lied about the truth of our nations, and when the northern empire attacks us and seeks to divide us.”
“Venezuela doesn't attack, but it doesn't allow itself to be attacked either. Defending the Republic firmly is not an option: it is a historic duty,” he concluded.
