The deputy to the National Assembly (AN), Pompeyo Torrealba, ratified the position of the Venezuelan State regarding the territorial dispute with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, affirming the nation's attachment to historic diplomatic channels.

In that regard, he stated that “everything within the framework of the Geneva Agreement; outside of it, there will be absolutely no possible solution on the territory of Guiana Essequiba”.

During a special interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Torrealba explained that the strategy for the recovery of Guiana Essequiba must be progressive and strategic.

He noted that the process is composed of several essential phases of rapprochement, recognition and falling in love with regard to social and cultural integration and emphasized that a definitive recovery cannot be consolidated “until we truly elucidate the issue within the framework of the Geneva Agreement”.

He assured that Venezuela has never given consent to third parties to define the limits of its territory.

Torrealba explained that, regardless of the ruling issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Venezuela will not accept any decision, since no legal competence is recognized to that court in the unilateral lawsuit filed by Guyana.

During his participation, he spoke of the creation of the Guayana Esequiba state, “we have a legislative council with its president and all its councilors, working to build the legal structure that corresponds to it like any other state in Venezuela,” he said.

“Thus, when we formally receive the territory of the Essequibo, which is 159,500 square kilometers, we will already have enough legal infrastructure to take a step forward,” he said.
