The first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, emphasized that the role of the church hierarchy is political; “it is a political party.”

“These are adecos and Copeyan leaders in cassocks, they are politicians and every time they get into politics, they bury it up to their waists,” he said.

“They use temples (...) there are priests who believe that everyone who goes to mass is opponents, so they set up their mass according to what they think and end up asking Our Lady of Coromoto for miracles,” he said.

He argued that people's beliefs must be respected.

In this regard, Cabello, on his Con El Mazo Dando program, broadcast number 485, commented on a case, “of a colleague who went to a church and was upset that the priest was giving a political speech and he went to church because his father was celebrating his 20th birthday.”
