An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 shook the northern part of Chile, with its epicenter in the city of Punitaqui, in the region of Coquimbo (north).

“An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 was perceived south of the city of Punitaqui,” the National Seismological Center of the University of Chile reported in a statement released by international media.

The epicenter of the movement originated 58 kilometers underground and was perceived in different cities in the Coquimbo region, such as La Serena, Ovalle and Vicuña.

Authorities ruled out injured people, interrupted basic services, damage to infrastructure or roads.

In turn, the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy reported that the characteristics of the movement did not meet the conditions to generate a tsunami off the country's coasts.
