In the spaces of the Axis of Good Living, in
Bellas Artes, Caracas, a
variety of free cultural activities will be held this coming Sunday, May 03, to celebrate the feast of the
Holy Cross of May, one of the most deep-rooted traditions in Venezuela,
where religious and cultural expressions are mixed to pay homage to nature and ask for good crops.
The agenda, which
will take place from 10:00 in the morning to 8:00 at night, will include
creative workshops, traditional knowledge and an artisanal market organized by the Red Art
Foundation, in a proposal aimed at highlighting this cultural manifestation.
The
activities will begin with origami, painting and printing workshops by
the National Museums Foundation, as well as sessions on ceramics, making
flowers on fabric and palm weaving for the preparation of the costume of the cross.
Starting in the afternoon, the altar will be assembled, accompanied by a
discussion on tradition and the songs associated with this celebration.
Subsequently, training and recreational activities will be developed aimed
at audiences of all ages.
The closing will be marked by the wake of the cross, with tenths, songs
and the ringing of drums, together with groups such as the UNEM Magistral Ensemble and the Songoytura Group, which will participate in
the final ritual “Lend Me Your Cross”.
