One death and various damages to electrical infrastructure, as well as blasting of sheet roofs in houses and falling trees were the main damage left in its wake by hurricane Erick, which made landfall as category 3 in southern Mexico, authorities said Friday.
“There is a little boy who died because he crossed an area that had a current, he is close to the family through the Guerrero government. There are no other human losses and they are mainly material losses,” said the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, at her morning press conference.
Hurricane Erick made landfall in southern Mexico on Thursday as category 3 and caused damage mainly in Oaxaca and Guerrero, due to rains and strong winds; the cyclone reached category 4 in the Pacific, which is why it was considered very dangerous.
However, after making landfall, it weakened and this Friday it is only reported as a remnant, but it maintains heavy rains in the south of the country.
