The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, gave a master class that kicked off the Diploma Course in Unilateral Coercive Measures at the Venezuelan Hydrocarbons University (UVH), highlighting the impact they have had on the Venezuelan economy and population.

“What President Nicolás Maduro asked of us was that we understand what this is about, because if we understand aggression, if we dismember aggression, we will be able to have anti-blockade policies, that every sanction has an anti-blockade policy to defeat it,” he said.

During his speech, Rodríguez stated that these illegitimate measures constitute a crime against humanity and a massive violation of Human Rights, since they affect all sectors of society, and not just the State. “These are policies that apply and affect everyone: in terms of health, education, food, housing and the entire system of social programs,” he added.

The vice-president reported that, to date, 1039 Unilateral Coercive Measures have been issued against the country, which meant at the time a 99% drop in foreign exchange earnings, between 2014 and 2020. In the case of the oil industry, he stressed that restrictions and tariffs have been imposed on international companies and strategic allies of Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), which has generated secondary sanctions as an indirect consequence of the application of the measures.

“We, as Venezuelans and as Venezuelans, are proud to say that they are not going to power with Venezuela and they are not going to be able to with us. The blockade, to overcome it; and Venezuela, to triumph,” she ratified, quoted in a press release from the Vice Presidency of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
