As part of
the Venezuela International Book Fair 2024 (FILVEN), the exhibition and the naming of the
book “Graphopolis Between Two Centuries: Art Does Not Stop” opened in the
spaces of the National Art Gallery (GAN).
According to information from the Ministry for Culture, the curator of
the exhibition, Félix Hernández, indicated that “in this exhibition you can
observe the predominance of abstract art. The exhibition does not pursue a unified
aesthetic, on the contrary, each artist expresses himself in his own way under the
concept of an exhibition platform”.
In the exhibition you can see works by the original
Gratópolis group, such as Yrina Gutiérrez, Reddy González, Enrique Camarinha,
Antonio Castillo, Pasión Morales, Hugo Mariño and Manuel Matheus.
The group stated that this exhibition and the book were a tribute to
Luis Galíndez, who sadly died recently. Galíndez stood out
as one of the main spokespersons of the Congress of Culture, in its two
editions held.
The Grafópolis group was created in 1985 in the heat of the vindictive
struggles that took place at the institution where its
members studied, the Cristóbal Rojas School of Visual Arts, where a historic crisis had been
taking place, which generated in its members an act of conscience and organization to defend their ideals.
