During the commemoration of the four years since the assassination of General Qassim Soleimani, two explosions were recorded this Wednesday near the cemetery where the martyr's remains rest, in Iran, leaving more than 100 people dead and almost 200 injured.

The death toll could increase, due to the critical condition of several of the injured, so emergency services are on alert and have prepared to transfer patients from Kerman, the city where the cemetery is located, to Tehran's hospitals with helicopters, according to the spokesman for the Iranian National Emergency Services organization, Babak Yekta Parast.

According to reports from local media Tasnim, the first explosion occurred 700 meters away and the second one a kilometer from the cemetery, suggesting that the explosives were far away from the busiest areas and did not pass through security doors. The explosions, despite their proximity, caused no damage to Soleimani's grave.

So far, the official cause of the detonations has not been clarified, but the authorities of the province of Kerman described what happened as a terrorist attack. Previous reports from Nournews, a semi-official newspaper, indicated that “several gas cylinders exploded on the road leading to the cemetery”.
